  STATEMENT

Tim Yankosky sees his work as a personal narrative, stories of his past that shape his own growth as they unfold and, at the same time, offer an account that the viewer may identify with. The essence of the story is the beauty Tim observes in the quotidian struggle that sees us through one day and into the next. The hero in this series is a yellow bird, depicted in various postures of restraint and captivity. The bird reflects what we all know about limited movement and opportunity, boundaries and longing.

Before he began painting, Tim was a ceramic sculptor and jewelry maker. He has always incorporated found objects-rusted wire, old floorboards, salvaged plumbing-into his work. The extended life of these elements adds to the depth of each piece as he builds up the rich surfaces of paint, paper and sketches.
